Nexio vs Google Lens for Scanning Business Cards: Is a Dedicated App Worth It?
Google Lens is already on your phone. But is it good enough for business cards, or do you need a purpose-built scanner like Nexio?

Google Lens is free and already on your phone. So why would anyone download a separate app to scan business cards?
I asked myself the same question. Then I scanned 20 business cards through both Google Lens and Nexio. The difference was bigger than I expected.
The Short Answer
Google Lens reads text from a card. Nexio reads text, parses it into contact fields, and saves a complete contact to your phone. That distinction sounds minor, but it's the difference between a 5-second task and a 2-minute task per card.
Head-to-Head Comparison
| Feature | Nexio | Google Lens |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Free |
| Scan-to-Contact Time | Under 3 seconds | 1-2 minutes (manual) |
| Auto Field Parsing | Yes (name, phone, email, company, address) | No (raw text only) |
| Accuracy (20-card test) | 20/20 | 16/20 (OCR), 0/20 (auto-save) |
| Languages | 200+ | 100+ |
| Saves to Contacts | Automatically | Manual copy-paste |
| Batch Scanning | Sequential (fast) | One at a time |
| Platform | iOS only | iOS and Android |
| Purpose-Built for Cards | Yes | No (general text recognition) |
Where Nexio Wins
Automatic contact creation. This is the entire difference. When you scan a card with Nexio, it reads the text AND figures out which text is the name, which is the phone number, which is the email, and which is the company. Then it creates a complete contact in your phone's address book. With Google Lens, you get a block of raw text that you have to manually sort into contact fields. For one card, that's annoying. For twenty cards at a conference, it's brutal.
Time per card. Nexio: 3 seconds. Google Lens: 1-2 minutes per card (point camera, copy text, open Contacts, create new contact, paste name, go back, copy phone, paste phone, go back, copy email, paste email...). At 20 cards, that's 1 minute with Nexio vs. 30-40 minutes with Google Lens.
Field parsing accuracy. Nexio knows that "(555) 123-4567" is a phone number and "sarah@acme.com" is an email. Google Lens gives you all the text in a blob and you figure it out. Business cards with unusual layouts (vertical cards, cards with multiple phone numbers) are where Nexio's specialized parsing really pays off.
Connectivity. Both Nexio and Google Lens require an internet connection for scanning.
Where Google Lens Wins
Already installed. You don't need to download anything. Google Lens is built into the Google app on iPhone and the camera on Android. If you scan one card per year, the convenience of "already there" matters.
Cross-platform. Google Lens works on both iOS and Android. Nexio is iOS only.
General purpose. Google Lens also translates signs, identifies plants, finds products, and does math. It's a Swiss Army knife. Nexio only scans business cards.
Language breadth. Google Lens supports 100+ languages for text recognition. Nexio supports 200+, but Google Lens covers most major languages.
The Real Question
How many business cards do you scan per year?
Fewer than 5: Google Lens is fine. The manual copy-paste is annoying but manageable for a handful of cards.
5-20: Nexio saves you meaningful time. The difference between 3 seconds and 2 minutes per card adds up. Download Nexio and use it.
20+: You absolutely need a dedicated scanner. Using Google Lens for 20+ cards means spending 30-40 minutes on manual data entry that Nexio handles in under a minute total.
The Bottom Line
Google Lens is a text recognition tool. Nexio is a business card scanner. They both read text from cards, but what happens with that text is completely different.
Google Lens gives you raw text and says "good luck." Nexio gives you a saved contact and says "done."
If you scan more than a few cards per year, downloading Nexio will save you hours of manual data entry over time. If you genuinely only scan 2-3 cards per year, Google Lens handles it, but you'll still wish it would just save the contact automatically.
